Leander's love is a Greek mythological story of the tragic love between Leander, a young man from Abydos, and Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite who lived on the opposite side of the Hellespont. The couple fell in love at first sight, and every night, Leander would swim across the strait to meet Hero, who would light a lamp to guide his way. They were deeply in love, but tragedy struck when Leander drowned one night during a storm while trying to swim across. Overwhelmed with grief, Hero threw herself from a tower and died. The story of Leander's love was a popular theme in ancient literature and art, and it has inspired countless artistic works in music, literature, and visual arts over the centuries.
